Quiet drift

Neglected, not dead

Warmth can be buried under exhaustion, resentment and routine. Whether goodwill remains changes what is possible next.

Sometimes the warmth is buried

The house still runs, but affection has thinned out. You may feel more like co-managers than partners, with most conversations reduced to what needs doing next.

If you both still care about the distance, warmth may be buried under fatigue, resentment, avoidance, and routine. That matters. It is also not proof that everything will work out.

Waiting changes nothing

Noticing the neglect does not change it on its own. If both people keep waiting for warmth to return by accident, distance can become the normal shape of the relationship. The open question is whether enough goodwill remains to begin protecting the bond again.
