Desire, touch and life changes

Off-Days Are Not Failure

A tired day can be just a tired day. Notice when it becomes a pattern you no longer talk about.

You reached for each other and one of you had nothing left. That can sting, particularly if closeness has been scarce. It does not mean the relationship has failed.

Bodies and lives do not keep a steady level of desire. Illness, deadlines, poor sleep and caregiving can make a person unavailable for sex or even conversation today. A no can be respected without turning it into proof that you are unwanted. The person saying no can still offer a kind signal when they have it: “I am exhausted. I do still want closeness with you.”

If every day is an off-day, something may need attention. Ask what is consuming capacity and whether touch has begun to feel like a test. Do not make one partner responsible for fixing the other’s disappointment with their body. Find a way back to contact that both people can freely choose.
