Resentment and recommitment
Staying for the Kids, But What Atmosphere Are They Living In?
Keeping the family together can be loving. The daily atmosphere children live in matters too.
You want your children to have a steady home. That may be one reason you are staying. That wish can come from love, sacrifice and a serious sense of responsibility.
Children live inside the atmosphere
Children live in the house you are keeping together. They notice when a parent is treated with contempt, when everyone grows careful around one person, and when silence means nobody can say the real thing. They also notice tenderness, a sincere apology and two adults trying to make the room easier to live in.
Ask what the decision to stay is protecting in their daily life. If there is respect and a genuine effort to repair, the structure may offer something precious. If the house runs on fear or ongoing punishment, preserving its shape cannot be the only measure of care.
This is not a slogan
This is a hard family decision, not a slogan. If threats, coercion or direct harm are present, begin with safety for you and the children.
