After the Baby: What She May Be Carrying

Recovery, broken sleep and constant touch can change what closeness feels like after a baby.

You may reach for the person you knew before the birth and meet someone who flinches, turns away or says she needs to sleep. It hurts to feel outside a new world that seems to have no space for you.

She may be healing, feeding, carrying the mental work of a new day and touched almost constantly. Her body may feel claimed before you enter the room. A refusal tonight does not tell you whether she loves you or whether desire will return on a timetable.

Ask what contact fits this body now

  • Take a real share of the work without waiting to be directed.
  • Protect rest that she does not have to organise.
  • Offer affection that can stop exactly where she wants it to stop.
  • Say that you miss her without making recovery responsible for reassuring you.

Grieve the old ease together

The two of you may be grieving an old ease while learning this new life. Keep some signal that you still belong to each other, even if sex is not available. If pain persists or emotional distress feels severe, seek appropriate professional support.
