Her perspective
What “Not Tonight” May Be Telling You
Her no may have more to do with the day she has lived than with your worth. Ask before deciding what it means.
You hear “not tonight” and feel rejected. By the time she turns off the light, you may already be replaying every other night she said it. The ache is real. The explanation you have chosen may still be wrong.
- Exhaustion or a body that has not come down from the day.
- Touch that has begun to feel like an automatic route to sex.
- Pain, resentment or an unfinished conflict.
- A need for closeness before desire can become available.
If you withdraw in punishment or ask again until she gives you a different answer, she learns that telling the truth costs her. If she keeps offering only a vague “later,” you are left carrying a real problem alone. Both parts deserve attention, away from this bedtime moment.
Ask her what makes closeness easier or harder lately. Listen even if the answer involves your behaviour, her health, or a load neither of you has named. Tell her that the sexual distance matters to you without making tonight’s refusal a trial. You are trying to understand the marriage you are both in, not extract a yes before sleep.
